Game Spread: South Carolina -14, Southern Mississippi +14
Game Total: 45
The Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier is salivating at the possibility of winning an SEC Championship while leading off the NCAA Football season. He realizes with Florida and Georgia not as strong as in the past, this may be his best shot at taking the SEC East and playing for that Sec Championship.

Key Matchup: Coach Spurrier’s game plan vs. Southern Mississippi’s offense
QB Austin Davis was on fire the first 4 games of last year before an injury took him out of the season. He threw for 1165 yards and 10 touchdowns in those games. He may be a little off on timing for South Carolina’s rush and secondary. Coach Steve is licking his lips.
The Golden Eagles lost the keys to their top 20 offense last year. They lost most of their offensive linemen and Southern Mississippi’s all time rusher Damion Fletcher. This will not bode well for this group with Coach Spurrier foaming at the mouth.
Expect South Carolina’s defense to look better than they actually are because of the lack of cohesiveness on the Southern Miss. offense. Chalk that up to Spurrier going for the jugular and exposing the holes in the cheese on that offense.
South Carolina had a couple receivers talking smack early about possibly being the best receiving corps in the country. That’s a little much considering 7 of 8 are freshmen or sophomores. There are no worries in this case. South Carolina will score plenty of points for what the Coach will do with his plan.
College Football Betting Pick: Bet South Carolina -14 points with confidence.
USC Trojans @ Hawaii Warriors (Aloha Stadium in Honolulu)
Thursday, September 2nd at 11:05 PM ET, Nationally Televised on ESPN
Game Spread: USC -21, Hawaii +21
Game Total: 53½
One thing we know is new head coach Lane Kiffin and the Trojans won’t be playing in January 2011. Their sanctions include them being banned from bowl games for the next 2 years. This makes this year more about winning than awards. Unfortunately, Lane doesn’t know much about winning.
Key Matchup: USC Offense vs. Hawaii Defense
The Trojans were 9-4 last season and have their freshman quarterback Matt Barkley returning after an up and down season. He should improve on a season that Trojan fans would call unacceptable when touchdown passes and Interceptions are almost equal.
Junior Mark Tyler got his butt in shape and swooped the starting tailback job away from Allen Bradford who averaged 5.8 yards a carry last year as the team’s top returning rusher. This should keep their offense fairly balanced against a defense giving up over 400 yards and almost 30 points a game last year.
